The Lumberjack Jaunt is going Virtual for 2021!
In its 47th year, the 2021 Brainerd Nordic Ski Club’s Lumberjack Jaunt will be an Open Track/Virtual event on January 29-31. The 8 km course at the Northland Arboretum will be marked and available to ski over these three days, or ski at whatever venue is best for you. Ski distances of 8, 16, or 32 km, skate or classic techniques. Ski one lap (8 km), ski two laps (16 km), or four laps (32 km). Ski classic technique, skate, or do your own skiathlon. After your virtual ski, try to ski 50 km, or even ski 100 km. Wear lumberjack apparel or an old race bid when you ski your Jaunt.
When should you ski? You can ski in the morning, the afternoon, or ski at night (some of the 8 km course is lighted, some is not). Post pictures on BNSC Facebook page.
2021 Lumberjack Jaunt Schedule Update
A school ski race had been moved to the Northland Arboretum on Saturday January 30th. Because of this the open track 8 km course will be marked starting Thursday the 28th through Sunday the 31st. The school races will be using the trails from around 8:00 am through about 4:30 pm Saturday. If you are planning to ski your Jaunt on Saturday consider skiing at a different trail system than the Arboretum to reduce the number of people at the Arb on Saturday, or ski late in the day. Sunset will be at 5:20 and the just past full moon will rise at about 7:30 pm. Some of the 8 km course is lighted, but the more northeast trails are not. In the Brainerd area the French Rapids, Larson Lake, and Foresview Middle School trails are all in good shape and are great places for a Saturday Jaunt.
Free Kids Distance: The kid’s course is sponsored by the Brainerd YMCA. An approximately 400 m loop will be marked in the field. Ski as many laps as is appropriate for your age and skill level and enter time on the results site. Or ski a loop in your yard or nearest trails.
Upload results after your event: Although there are no awards this year, some friendly competition can still be had. Once you have completed your race distance come back on this site and upload your results.
CLICK HERE to go to the results page, then select the results for your distance (6k, 8k etc). The ItsYourRace results page for your distance will appear. You have until Monday February 1st at 11:59 pm to submit your race time.
Find your name in the results for your distance. With you name you will see an "Update Time" button. Click "Update Time".
If you are not currently logged into ItsYourRace, a login window will appear. Log in using your ItsYourRace user id (probably your email address) and password. Can't remember ? Click "Forgot Your Password" to reset.
Enter your time and click the "Save Your Time" button. That's it! You can also print off your finisher certificate here.
Times are submitted for fun, there are no prizes given out this year.
Course Reminders: Please comply with distancing guidance and only ski in close proximity to members of your immediate household. Stay at least one long ski length (200 cm), or one Paul Bunyan arm’s length from other skiers. Having the course available over three days will allow for plenty of distancing. Wear masks when near others; be especially aware of distancing in parking lots and trailhead areas.
What does your registration benefit? The Brainerd Nordic Ski Club works to promote Nordic skiing in the Brainerd Area. The BNSC maintains and grooms five trail systems in the Brainerd Area and supports the Brainerd Chapter of the Minnesota Youth Ski League for skiers between 4-14 years of age.
